So I got 3 small sites to backup. Still on that part…But the main top level site is huge. Has 50+ sites/workspaces inside it. I have been using stsadm but after an hour it just errors out with no reason. So do any of these products you have mentioned or do you know a way [...]

Hi all. Can someone please check this for me: I create a Content Type called “Forms” as a child of “Document”. I then Create a Content Type “Subject Forms” as a Child of “Forms” I then add a content query web part to a page that queries a whole site. I set the Content Type [...]

Firstly, thanks ever so much for your reply. They are created equal. Any job ‘won’ becomes a project. I still see issues with the idea of “all other projects going into one site collection”, this will/could easily exceed the data recommendation for one content database. I want the access point to be the project portal [...]

Are all projects created equal? Meaning, how to you categorize your projects (by size, by funding, by budget, etc.). At an enterprise client I work with, the only projects that get their own site collection are the major/strategic projects. All other projects go into one site collection. When a new project gets created, it is [...]

I guess whatever the split is to get the content split amongst separate databases, must be thought of in data consumption. Even if right now regions mapped into 1 content database per region. Who’s to say that one region might grow in size and have lots more projects in the future which far exceeds the [...]

Currently (and wrong) : We have a Projects web application, Every project is created as a new site collection (webapp/sites/xxx), and as it stands right now gets created in it’s own content database. DON’T WORRY we are currently running a project to consolidate all the site collections into just a few content databases. We want [...]

Hello again Mike, By far the easiest way to pull data from list on another site but within the same site collection would be to use the data form web part which you can add through sharepoint designer. There’s a good post here: http://www.u2u.info/Blogs/Kevin/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=8 If you don’t have sharepoint designer you can download it free [...]

So, upon robbydizzle’s recommendation I checked out the Content Query Webpart. Naturally when I went to my SP instance this web part was nowhere to be found! After some searching I wanted to pass along the “fix” for when you are using MOSS 2007 and don’t see the Content Query Webpart in your list to [...]
